Eddie Murphy and Mel B’s Daughter Is Now 15, A Look At Their Co-Parenting Relationship

Legendary comic Eddie Murphy is known for his many iconic roles. Be it Donkey in Shrek, The Prince from Coming to America, or Jimmy Early in Dreamgirls, Eddie has had a career rivaled by very few people. One of his biggest roles is probably that of being a dad however. The proud father of 10 has a full house, including six girls and four boys.

One of his baby mothers is the iconic pop star Mel B of the Spice Girls. Eddie and Mel had a hard time figuring out their co-parenting situation, but it seems that in recent years the pair have found common ground. Let us take a look at their history.

In total, Eddie Murphy has five different baby mothers. Paulette McNeely is a former girlfriend and mother of Eddie’s eldest child Eric Murphy. Eric is 33 years old and is currently dating Jasmin Lawrence, the daughter of Martin Lawrence. “Head over heels in LOVE with YOU @jasmin_lawrence ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #myotherhalf #equallyyoked #iloveyou,” Eric captioned a post of him and Jasmine after they went public in 2021.

Nicole Mitchell was married to Eddie Murphy from 1993-2006. During that time, she went professionally by Nicole Murphy and had five children with Eddie. Their kids are Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella. Mitchell was a model who has since retired and is now the founder and CEO of Y-Foy, which sells beauty products and weight loss aids.

Their children have gone on to various levels of success. Bria is an actress and socialite. Mother Nicole briefly dated former NFL star and television mogul Michal Strahan. Eddie dated a woman named Tamara Hood, and they share a son named Christian. Tamara was a casting director. Paige Butcher is his current fiancée and the mother of Izzy and Max. She is an actress, and they have been dating since 2012.

Before getting with Butcher, Eddie Murphy dated Mel B, aka Scary Spice. The duo had both come out of some tumultuous breakups when they found one another. They met at one of Eddie’s private dinner parties, and Mel B recalls leaving early because the attraction to him was too intense. Eddie agreed, and the pair took off really quickly, prioritizing children and marriage fast.

Eddie asks Mel’s late father for her hand in marriage. Mel quickly became pregnant, and the duo was so happy that they reportedly “Jumped around [Murphy’s] en-suite bathroom laughing and crying, bursting with the best news ever,” according to an Entertainment Tonight interview a few years ago.

The duo welcomed Angel Iris Murphy Brown in 2007 on the same day as her father’s birthday. Mel was a bit apprehensive at first about her daughter and father sharing a birthday. Unfortunately, things would come undone after this, with Murphy even joking in the press that he was not sure if Angel was his and requested a paternity test. Murphy was ultimate pretty absent from Angel’s life for the first decade or so, with Mel B moving on and raising her on her own.

In recent years, Mel B and Eddie Murphy have tried to work on a better co-parenting situation. Angel began visiting her father more in 2015 and spends time with him and his new fiancé Paige Butcher. According to Mel, Angel can go over whenever she wants and spend time with her father.

Eddie has also been paying Mel B $25k in child support for years until recently when the “Wannabe” hitmaker admitted that her financial situation had changed substantially. Mel took him to court and ordered the child support be bumped up to $35k and claimed that the money was simply not cutting it anymore.

Her attorneys said, “Until recently, Melanie has been fortunate in her career to sustain a comfortable lifestyle for herself and Angel. Unfortunately, Melanie’s income has dramatically reduced, such that she must consider modifying child support for the first time.” It’s clear her career took a hit following Covid and some of her television gigs drying up.

However, she was recently featured on The Circle U.S. The court finally granted Mel the pay bump this week. In addition to the extra $10k, Eddie is also ordered to pay all her legal fees as well. Eddie is also paying her back retroactively for the last two years and is required to pay up till she is 18.
